Default Spinney Mtn Res 4.3.09

On Thursday, my bro, a buddy, and I hit Spinney. We wanted to go closer to opening day, but the DAM weather was not cooperating. We arrived around 7 am to find the lake had partially frozen over night. There was about a 15 ft ice shelf along the bank all the way past the dam. Once the wind picked up it broke the ice up for us. It was very cold, car temp around 10 deg. @ 7. Only two other cars at the lot just past the dam when we arrived.. Really we only saw about ten or cars all day. The fishing was spotty, it seemed to come in waves, one minute it would be hot, the next it was dead. We had a good day with about 10 fish a person. All ranging from 13 in, to close to 21 in. Eggs, Sj, scuds, and PTís all caught fish. The wind was manageable, and temp finally got to mid 30ís around 3 pm. Spinney should be good the next few weeks.

For those of you who dont know about this place, its arguably the best trout fishery in colorado!!!

Here is early morning shot of the res.

Coloradokid: Thanks for the fishing report and the great photos. Were you fishing from shore or using pontoon boats/float tubes?

Mc, thanks man. Were fishing from shore, the fish are crusing the shore line, so you really dont need to cast that far out, only 10 feet or so. I think shore fishermen do better than boats, especally in early season, so leave the boats at home, just be ready for combat fishing, especially during the weekends.

Coloradokid: OK, thanks. I thought that might be the case but wasn't sure and I have never fished there before. Makes sense that the fish would be cruising the shallow water this time of year.
