ok. back from florida and things are heating up around here. the white bass and crappie are biting on the lower rio grande, and the trout fishing has improved on the upper gila river. so, for now, the fishing is in southern new mexico because spring runoff is in full torrent to the north and in colorado. as runoff subsides, the fishing will slack off on the lower rio grande, heat up on the rivers of northern new mexico, and the "big fly" hatches of southern colorado will get underway on rivers such as the conejos (actually, runoff or no runoff on the conejos...but heavy runoff can make them unfishable).

so i'll be hitting the gila and the lower rio grande for the next few weeks and then start working my way north. it's fishin' season in the southwest!
