well i am fairly new to the flyfishing world i have been fishing freshwater with the fly rod to get started but i want to go to the water i really love with the fly rod but i really dont know how to i know i will need a bigger rod reel line all that but im not sure what size i am in southern california long beach to be exact i have only seen one person ever fly fishing the surf down here i wasnt able to ask him questions but yeah what are some proven flies sinking line floating? help me out here thank you

Since I'm on the opposite side of the country I can give you some basic guidlines but finding a local flyshop or a local flyfishing club would help you way more than I could. You will be fishing anything from an 8-10WT rod. The size of the rod will depend on the wind and the size of the flies you will be throwing. Hopefully some CA guys jump in here to give you some local advise.
