I will add the bones on exuma in the early days were sort of 3 or 4lb we,d see the odd biggie now and then ,over the years the fish seem to grow some and 4 and 5lb fish were the norm , after a good few years when out with the guides we,d ask them to search out the bigger fish so altho we would catch less we did hit bigger fish in the 6 to 8lb mark . a lot of the time we,d split up some going in search of the bigger fish and some like me who just wanted to wade and catch bones whatever the size esp if they average 5lb ,don't get me wrong as time went on casting to a small group of 2 or 3 fish of a bigger size whilst wading is kind of addictive.for me I loved the hunt the searching for fish , sometimes on these outside flats of exuma and long island wed bump into thousands of fish ,it got to a point where wed take a handful of fish out of a pod and move on to search out other groups of fish , some of the best days we had were self guided you get a better sense of achievement setting out to catch your own fish , one particular day I was out on exuma with a guide we got to his spot and drifted downwind ,on the one drift I took 17 bones its all well and good but I,d rather get out and wade and hunt the fish myself with no guide and take 1 on my own , anyways we off to the acklins to a lodge somewhere near jamaica bay and snug corner , after a few days on exume we took a plane down to the bight of acklins , our sense for adventure seem to start all over again on this magical bonefish heaven of an island , on arrival and a very warm greeting from our hosts we met our guides , after a few beers we explained our needs and requests to the guides and they promised to help us out , after a few days of catching plenty of bones and socialising we got taken out to a few offshore cays to catch bones and catch dinner , now this was up our street as it was what we was used to on exuma and long island , the thought of grilled snapper from mangrove to grey or even mutton melts our taste buds , the 1st time we went to these small offshore cays was probably the best. we chugged out the bight caught a few small tuna got to the cay waded to shore caught over a hundred bones between us to the point where I gave the guide my rod to fish a pod of well over 3 thousand bonefish , somewhere I have a vid of 4 rods hooked into bones at the same time , I snuck off and collected half a dozen conch , on the way back we stopped at a cut and hand lined a few different species to add to our fish bbq bonanza , the dinner that night was something very special and the social side went on for hours down the only bar that end of the island ,I realy jelled with my guide on acklins and he knew I loved to wade he took me to some huge inland lagoons that no boat could enter ,it was like a massive wildlife sanctuary so peaceful and at times teeming with small bones but on occasion just a few big fish , we fished for oceanic triggers on some rocky flats and even searched out some permit which we see but never connected with, it was a bone paradise and the best skinny water wading we fished, our time on acklins was magical the folk were warm and the food was superb , but now we have 3 places on our menu and our trips lasted up to 3 wks visiting all 3 islands , inbetween all this island hopping we took in rum cay for a few days by boat we fished along the way and landed with wahoo tuna and a collection of fish none caught on fly , I wont condem the place as we never got a serious chance to fish it properly the food we got cooked and the welcome was fab a few island lads dived for crawfish and our food was amazing but the mozzies just wouldn't give us chance to fish ive never been in a spot with mozzies like that they were in your mouth ears masses of them lol so I never been back I guess we just got the time wrong for the place , after a few years ragged island was our next choice , we often talked about it but the other 3 islands and which one to leave out stalled us for a few years but now we was booked and hooked on the place to add to our collection of jewel places to fish ,,,
strolling down to our dock with our hire boat waiting {hells bay its not} but we looked at it as a taxi to the flats lol
