Default Choosing line

Still learning, and still a ton of information to go through here and other locations but have a few questions.

I want to practice my casting this fall but this time frame is also perfect for the speck trout bite in our area. One spot I think will be ideal is in the ICW that gets pretty strong current and is about 12-15ft deep. What type of line shoul I be using, sinking, intermediate? Have some clouser minnows that another guy gave me in a few different colors so trying to figure this out as most I see only use sinking line with deeper waters but the current is making me consider using sinking line.
