  1. Re: Where Can I Find Spools for Discontinued Orvis Reels?

Holey moley, I just saw a spool for one of those at the Colorado Springs flea market. The guy wanted 60 bucks for it. I don't know if this is too much and I didn't buy it. Try yard sales or flea...

Re: First self tied fly: mini streamer

It will catch fish. My first fly looked like a bird crapped it out and I caught a 26 inch 6lb 6oz Rainbow the day I first took that fly out to fish. I lost it long ago and wish I still had it. I...

Re: My Rant -- Fly Tying Videos

You have all these self claimed experts that wouldn't know a fly from their a$*>@le. I'm no expert and I couldn't agree more with everyone else on some of these videos.
  4. Re: White River Fly Shop Dogwood Canyon Fly Reel

I bought one of these and it is total trash. Not even worth taking back for a refund or replacement. Go with a Lamson Liquid, much better reel and an unbeatable warranty.

Re: Fly Fisherman Dies in Russia

I met this kid a while back. Such a tragedy.
  6. Re: May 2019 Caption Competition - sponsored by Allen Fly Fishing

Good thing I brought my lucky teddy bear, I always catch fish when I bring it.

    Re: Floatent options

Vick's lip care in the squeeze tube. Cheap and lasts a long time on the fly. Also I bought a tube of this about 20 years ago and am still using it. This shows how much I fish dry flies, personally I...

    Re: Retrieving streamers in stillwater

It's been good so far this year for me using a Thin Mint or light olive woolly bugger tied with cactus chenille or the body, fishing it below an indicator 4 to 5 feet down. If this slows down then I...

Re: The cost of casting instruction.

I was fortunate enough to be taught to cast by one of the best fly fishermen alive at the time. Ed Marsh. I would gladly teach anyone who wanted to learn to fly fish and cast better at no charge just...

Re: Looking for a wading staff

An old ski pole works real good. You can find them at a garage sale or flea market for around 5 bucks. I found three of them, one of them a graphite shaft and paid a total of 9 dollars for all three....
  13. Re: If You Could Only Have Two of Each...3 wt, 4wt, 5wt, 6wt....What would they Be?

Personally I would just have one 9 foot 6 weight and one 9 foot 8 weight, of which I do have. An Orvis Trident 9ft 6wt and a Sage Method 9ft 8 wt. Can cover most of the fishing situations I will...

    Re: Fair weather fishermen....

Best fishing partner to have, bar none. I wish I could take my little one along, but she would take off and probably get eaten by a bear or some other bad situation.

    Re: Orvis Hydros SL

I thought I would never buy Orvis equipment either. But after buying an Orvis SL and then also a rod by Orvis, they are some solid fishing tools and are built as well as or better than some other...

Re: Worst days of fishing to date

IMHO there is never a bad day of fishing, catching fish or not. No better way to unwind from stressful times than fishing.

    Re: Fair weather fishermen....

I prefer to fish alone, but if a friend wants to go along, I will tell him to drive himself. That way if he wants to leave he can do so anytime he wants to. I do tell anyone who wants to go fish with...

Re: Should I get a spey rod for lake fishing?

A switch rod or spey rod are both good on lakes. Both wading and from a float tube/pontoon. I also use a spey rod from a canoe and have caught quite a few fish this way.

Re: When should i use streamers for trout?

Any time of the year on most streamers. From my personal preference, I use a Thin Mint more than any other fly. Also using a black woolly bugger when a color change is used, in size 10 to 6. Other...

Re: Abel: The Harley Davidson of fishing reels.

Being a biker myself, I think the Abel reels are probably made to last much longer than a Harley without much maintenance. I do not own an Abel reel, but have owned Harley's and they are only made to...

Re: Does anyone still use a canoe?

Down here in Southern Colorado I do still use a canoe. It is a bit harder when it is windy but I have been able to both single hand rod fly fish and use my Spey rod in the canoe. If it can be done I...
