I use a 3-1/8 modern wide spool perfect on a 595, and a 3-3/8 with my 695. Both are perfect!

Re: Orvis Tackle - No White Label

I have very fond memories of Orvis. I was changing jobs and moving from Salt Lake to Fayetteville AR in the early 90's. I had been fly fishing less than 10 years and learned while working in...

I no longer have a problem with progressives when wading. I may have when I started wearing glasses about 10y ago, but I also had trouble with stairs!

Reading through the hat thread because I now have a brand new 3" scar that closed a 2" diameter hole in my cheek for just this reason!

    Re: Dunking a reel

I am aware of the same problem for some reels we use for steelhead. I cannot remember the exact cure we used while on the river because the reel manufacturer came up with a fix, but it was something...

Re: Fishing year in review, goals for next year?

Some great replies. I had a great time fishing our local waters in the inland empire of ID, MT, WA, and OR. What hit home this year was that our steelhead returns were so bad they shut down the...

Well, it is a stretch, but my wife and I got a $3,000 repair bill for her Subaru. She uses it to drive up and join me on her days off while I am camped out on rivers in N.ID and W. MT all summer. ...

Get the one you will use! For me it is the Simms carbon fiber for trout and the Sharpes for steelhead. Just find one you like and use it.

I feel fortunate to have done business with Kerry Burkheimer and Bob Meiser. You don't just buy one of their rods, you call them and talk about what you need, they will ask questions, then make a...

Re: Are you considering the Trout Spey ?

Thanks for the links! Simon G's statement about some two-hand rods in the 3-4 wt range being noodles certainly rings true with me. I also think most people want to just tie on a leader to a line...

I do not use Skagit heads, instead mine are short or midbelly from 50 to 65 feet. I do not like mono but that seems to be the choice for some local Jedis (who also compete in speyorama). I use...

Re: 3Wt or 4wt Trout Spey

I have the 4114 and it is a very fun rod. Probably overkill for many of the streams I use it on in N. ID and W. MT, but I am looking at the 2-3-4 Red Shed Special by Meiser for those. Meiser and...
