Re: A New Custom-Built Dickerson 8014 Guide .....

You usually find lighter ring seats on rods that take smaller, lighter reels -- say, for line sizes 3 or 4 -- that aren't as likely to shake loose when you wave them around. Typically you see...

Re: A New Custom-Built Dickerson 8014 Guide .....

I'm not familiar with the 8014 model in particular, but Dickerson was one of the masters.

In the old days when bamboo was king, the most commonly used lines were heavier than they are today. The...

Re: Best high end line for distance?

The only one of these I have used is the Mastery Expert Distance, so I can't tell you it is the best. But I have been very pleased with it.

I would say, however, that many of the...

Re: What have you been tying today?

Oh, please don't take my comments as criticism. I think your flies are gorgeous! I was just trying to respond to the questions about Fulsher's original recipe.

Sorry for adding a tardy contribution to your discussion of the Fulkro pattern. I've been away (fishing the Rio Chama in New Mexico, among other things) and am just getting caught up on some of the...

My Orvis Super Tac-L-Pac vest. It's not perfect, but I've tried a lot of alternatives and never found anything I like better.

It has so many pockets of different sizes and shapes, some that...

Re: Budget friendly Reel Upgrade

3Tand, Orvis, and Allen would get my vote. A friend of mine who owns a fly shop says the 3Tand TF and the Lamson Guru are his best-selling trout reels. Both go for around $200. (But he doesn't...

Re: I am now considered to be 'high risk' health wise.

Just make sure that if you bring it to the river, it's a waterproof unit that can survive a dunking. You don't want to fall in and short out the electronics right when you need them most!

Re: Is it a Striper 10 or Bonefish 10 ??

I have never warmed up to full-sinking lines or shooting heads either, whether in the salt or anywhere else. I have a few just in case, but I usually start with a floater or intermediate and don't...

Re: loomis IMX

I am still regularly fishing the 8 weight IMX that I bought in 1992. I recently also got an 8 weight Helios2. The H2 is a little lighter and easier to cast up to about 60', and easier to cast all...

Re: Is it a Striper 10 or Bonefish 10 ??

One good rod with a given line weight rating ought to be equally capable of throwing an accurately rated floating or intermediate striper line in New England and an accurately rated floating or...

Re: What have you been tying today?

You should finish the copper-wire ones higher up the hook shank, as has already been said. Ideally, you want the yarn wraps to be sparse enough that a bit of the copper base wrap color underneath...

Re: Do some reels just not fit in some reel seats?

Th answer is yes, some just don't fit. Some reel seats are a little tight, and some reel feet are a little fat. My Okuma reels don't fit on all my rods, for example.

Re: Rod help!!!!

The TiCrX is a really stiff rod, perhaps the stiffest on your list. I have a 6 weight but I usually match it with a 7 or 8 weight line. I wouldn't recommend it if you're new to casting heavier-line...

Re: When they play the National Anthom I still stand up.

It's a digression, but if you were a Muslim you probably wouldn't. The Arabic name "Allah" and the English name "God" do in fact describe the same deity. Muslims believe they worship the same God...
