Re: 12wt reel for Christmas Island

I have fished Abels since 1992 and after selling a few still have 8 or 9 that I still use occasionally. The only part I have ever replaced is the nut that holds the drag knob on and only because I...

Re: Looking for Recommendations

My vote is for the 6 Nexus. A smooth casting fast rod that is very light, actually 2.8 oz, rod. You can do every thing you want to do from drys to streamers with it.

Re: "Sweet spots" in rod lines

For me the Radian 905 and 956. The 956 is a real big water cannon. Winston Blllx 9' 6, Bllx9' 6, Bllt 8.5-4, Nexis 9' 6, Sage Circa 5.

Re: R.L. Winston Thread

I agree the 9' 6 weight Bllx is a great rod and the only rod my wife will fish. We have 2 of them. Another great individual rod is the 8.5' Bllt 4 weight. This is a medium crisp rod with a great...

Re: Abel Big Game Pt.5

Abels first reel was the #2 and was supposed to match up,size wise, with the current salt water reels of the day. It's drag was based on the FinNor draw bar style. Next came the #1 and then the .5....

Re: Fly rod cork filler

Elmers carpenter wood filler in Golden Oak color is a perfect match for fly rod cork. It won't wash away and stays in place. Stuff it in the voids and after it drys lightly sand with some 320 grit.
