Re: Shaping Cork Grips

Agree with the above, especially since I don't have a lathe! Easy to glue up the rings on a 1/4" threaded rod hold it with washers and wingnuts then chuck it up in a drill to sand it down. Bonus -...

Recent float trip

Had our annual float on the Colorado last weekend. It was a beautiful day. Fishing was a bit slow but enough action to satisfy everyone. Got some on nymphs then switched to streamers which was a...

Re: Clear Creek, CO

Rain = streamers. Dungeons are great but might be big. Buggers, slump busters and the like.

Re: Bunny Fur Strips

If I was to buy only one I'd get the Zonker strips and use them to wrap a body rather than try to use cross-cut like a zonker. Ideally I'd do a mix.

Re: Poor Man's Tenkara?

You'll have them both so do a head to head comparison: same line, same fly, same stream, same day (wind etc) and see how they perform.

Re: Willow & Came tenkara rod

Interesting. If they are the same model then the price difference is crazy. Just based on the pictures the grip on the Amazon Maxcatch seems better than the Willow and Cane... not sure how much to...

Re: Building my first rod

I know Matt (owner of Proof). He got me into fly fishing and building and would be a very helpful teacher if you had questions. I've build some of his blanks (two graphite when he carried those)...

Re: Facing Reality

I can tie them that small, but still buy a bunch every year anyway. 20's, 22's, and 24's.

Re: Snow in Denver is normal but this isn't.

Denver got up to 60 today, and sunny! Went for a run with my daughter in shorts. Most of the snow is gone.

Re: Snow in Denver is normal but this isn't.

We did get some snow, but I don't know that it's that unusual at the end of April / early May. Was beautiful this morning and will be great in the 50's tomorrow :)

Re: Swap time? early season dry flies???

Sorry! I'd usually join but too much else going on - usually a sucker for a fly swap.

Re: New rod for Colorado.

Like Larry said, 7wt for streamers. I have a 7wt blue halo glass that I love.

Re: River Etiquette

There's usually a direct relationship between how closely the cars are parked in the lot and how close the people will be when you're fishing. Not 100%, but a good rule of thumb. Drives me nuts but...

Re: Dry fly hooks

For 18 and smaller I switch to Orvis Big Eye hooks. Much easier to tie on the tippet streamside.

Re: Bamboo rods and stripping guides?

I'd only use one. Don't know that two will hurt you, but on a short, lighter rod I'd just have one stripping guide. Have you thought of getting an agate? They can be very classy and striking.

Re: Ebamboo Fly Rod build

Congrats on the first bamboo build :) When it comes with choosing a seat the first question is whether you want a sliding band or one with lock nuts. Sliding bands can look very classy, personally...

XL Orvis Pro Guide Wading Jacket

Selling my Orvis wading jacket, because it doesn't fit anymore. Got it some years ago and it has seen some use, though is still in great condition.

The jacket is waterproof and the shoulders...

Re: Waterton Canyon?

If it were me I'd take a slight detour and fish below 11 mile or Spinney Reservoirs. It's just an hour or so West of Colorado Springs. The tailwaters can be good fishing and a better experience...

Re: Chinese bamboo rod

Sure. The blanks are from the Angler's Roost. Got them years ago. His ferrules are on the 4wt and I got better ones from the Golden Witch for the 5wt.

Here's a couple of the 5wt, you can see...
