Re: Source for hardy spring material

I second the idea of contacting the shop, I had a spring break in my Perfect while fishing near Grant's Pass so I went to his shop. He makes all the stuff and has many Hardy replacement parts.

Re: Best switch rod for the money

That very much depends on what type line you settle in with. The Beulah Elixir lines I mentioned fit onto a Sage Domaine #8, a Hardy Cascapedia 8/9 and a Hardy Taupo. What reel do you have?

Re: Best switch rod for the money

I took a fellow fishing this year who brought along a new Reddington Switch rod in 7/8 weight. We put one of my reels on it loaded with a 475 grain Beulah Elixir line. The line has a 37 foot head and...

Re: Best knot for tungsten putty?

The knot sounds like it should hold putty, perhaps work on a casting technique that puts less stress on the rig. I've seen people who's casting can fling split shot off the leader. Not saying that...

Re: Cost/benefit of windshield time vs flight time

Your not going to follow the strip bass migration are you :)

I'm thinking of that animated video posted years ago about following the fish to catch a 40 pound striped bass, remember?

Re: Kamchatka. Bank Shots. Can't stop watching

Oh yeah, that's happened to me buddy!

I can relate to that in many ways, as a traveling angler I've experienced perhaps a 35/65 percentile split on favorable conditions with 35% being the...

Re: "The Answer" if you like to catch trout

That's fantastic!!

Now you need a stream full of wild brown trout to test it on. May the Force be with you :)

Re: Kamchatka. Bank Shots. Can't stop watching

Just plug in some old Aerosmith really loud and drive like a Wildman next time you go out Larry, works for me.

Re: Cross country fly fishing road trip

I did that 5 years in a row beginning in 1981, traveled by motorcycle and camped out. I lived in North Central PA. close to many good streams so that was covered. I fished; Wisconsin, South Dakota,...

Re: Knot-tying tools

Hi gp,

I think Rip Tide has this one right, the only tool I have and use is the Tie Fast device. I use it for nail knots, otherwise just wing it with readers if needed.

Re: San Juan Oct 17-19

Maybe a little fin tag? Something easy to clamp on with forceps? :) Years ago after catching the same brown trout in the same plunge pool two years in a row I made a tiny V clip in the back of his...

Re: Renzetti Master for trout flies?

I don't know if Silver uses rotary to tie tiny flies but I did most of the tiny stuff the old fashioned way. When you get into larger patterns that's where the rotation worked well for me.

Re: Renzetti Master for trout flies?

Hi fender,

I have owned a Traveler since 1994 and went to have a look at the Master vise before posting. They look quite a bit alike in the jaw position and jaw configuration. I've used the...

Re: Streamer fishing with a 3wt?

I've been doing this for years using a 6'6" three weight with a DT 3 line and with a 6'3" five weight using a WF #5 line. Both of those lines will make a Spey type cast (modified roll cast) in tight...

Re: "The Answer" if you like to catch trout

I should add some content to the site, I've sort of remade myself as a tier and feel the need to update. I can tie them but in the end I'm more about fishing them I guess :)

Re: "The Answer" if you like to catch trout

I replaced them just now........

I tied those on 2X long shank hooks size 2 - 4 - 6 and a finished fly would range 1 1/2 to almost 3 inches depending on the hook size and shank.

I used to fish...

Re: Trout coloration vs size vs age vs origin

A best guess would be that the fish who remain stained from the tannin content of the water during low flow conditions are the resident fish. The lighter and I believe you said larger fish are most...
