Re: 2020 Driftless Pictures And Reports

Yep, midging trout out in force on Sunday before the sun hit the snow and dropped water temps. Happy fish above the pools munching away on midges. Tough to get to, they seemed to want to stage at the...

    Re: Ferrule creaks when flexed

Update: Y'all were right, just needed a good cleaning and waxing. Seems to take a lot of wax to get it to fit snugly and not creak, but the ferrules seat nice and tight now and the rod works great....

    Re: Ferrule creaks when flexed

Excellent, thanks Silver! I'm already planning on being at the spring opener, if I can't get the ferrule to stop creaking by then, I'll bring the rod along and see if anybody has ideas. I'll try to...

    Re: Ferrule creaks when flexed

Thanks! Yes, it's a graphite rod, an old Sage SP. I've been trying to pinpoint whether it's in the ferrule or under the grip, I'm fairly certain it's in the ferrule at this point.

    I may be sending...

    Ferrule creaks when flexed

Has anybody ever had a ferrule creak when they assemble and flex a rod? I'm trying to figure out if there is just some dirt or sand in the ferrule or if it means the ferrule has a slight crack and...

    Poll: Re: Panfish / Bass Fly Swap please read;

I'm still tying for this, but I don't have the time to manage it, unfortunately. If somebody takes over management, I'm happy to send them along. Or save them for another time!

    Re: Reel seat repair?

Yes, thank you bonefish, good point! It does swivel (it's a Sage SP) so I'm not worried about alignment for the rear hood.

A couple questions, I assume something like blue painters tape will work...

Re: Let's design the perfect Driftless Fly box

tl;dr Nymphs: 14-20. Dries: depends on the hatch, usually 14-20. Streamers: Ask someone else, but usually an 8 or 10 for me.

I can't remember everything that was recommended (sorry!) but what...

    Reel seat repair?

Not sure if this is the right area to post this question. I recently purchased a used rod and there is a slight gap between the lower reel seat hardware and the reel seat insert. It's a hard to find...

Re: Official panfish-Bass Fly Swap 2019-20

Just an update, found a pattern I like, I think it's called the Predator. Tying it in a size 10 for panfish. Trying to post a picture, but can't figure out how to upload it. Unless this works, it...

    Re: Achieving Delicacy of Presentation

I am by no means an expert on fly fishing, but I found this thread really interesting because it seems so much of each of our presentation tactics are dependent on home waters or waters we prefer to...

Re: 2020 Driftless Pictures And Reports

Got out for a few hours for Wisconsin's opener on Saturday. No pictures, but did well in the morning with the cloud cover. Fish were in the deeper runs and heads of pools, happy to eat a frenchie (or...

Re: And I'm ready for my "first" tie! Any tips?

Looks good! As you tie more, I think you'll find there are certain proportions that you like on certain flies. As you play around with the woolly bugger, I wouldn't be afraid to try out different...

Re: Leopard trout and tiger trout

Like osseous said, I haven't heard leopard trout around here.

If I understand the science correctly, tiger trout can occur in the wild (I've been with a friend who caught one in the driftless) but...

You've got me too, but I'm in. Not sure what to tie yet, but I'll figure something out!
  17. Re: 2019-2020 Fly Swaps, what are we tying next?

Sounds good! I can always tie up some small gurglers or something, I'll figure it out once the panfish swap gets organized. :)

Sorry, just saw this post. I'm the worst, I just remembered we have a commitment on Saturday evening, which probably means I'm out for driving to Iowa on Saturday. Go ahead and make other plans,...

Nope! And I don't think anybody has, just thought I'd see if anybody had suggestions for a first time visitor to Yellowstone. I doesn't hurt to ask, right?
