Some dry fly action at last!

Been too busy at home to get out for the past week or two, but decided to look at the local lake yesterday evening. Lake was still dirty from recent hard rains, but the creek below the spillway...

Good looking catch! I like that outfit you're using, too!
We were warming up, but winter has returned this week. :(

Re: Medium-Fast Glass???

I just bought an Echo 8'6" 4wt glass rod and it seems to be similar to a med/fast graphite. Echo also makes a 7'4" 4wt glass rod, but it's rated as a bit slower than the 8'6".
So far I really like...

I have a couple of the Dennison blood knot tools (bought one and it worked so well I ordered another for my...

Re: Got my new rod today!

Thanks for the replies.
fae - you have me thinking now (can be a dangerous thing ). The difference in price would mean it would only cost me a few dollars to add a spare spool. May just...

Got my new rod today!

Ordered an Echo Glass 8'6" 4pc "outfit" and got it today. Took it to the local lake to cast it and found the reel the dealer had in the combo (Orvis Battenkill) was way too light to balance the rod....

I usually make my leader about the same length as the rod for bluegill fishing.

Re: A Great Little Vise

Andy,
When you use the rotary function to apply material you need to put a half hitch in the thread to keep it in place on the hook, then hang the bobbin on the rest (in-line with the hook shank) so...

Re: A Great Little Vise

Got the vise today and set it up. Easy to assemble, and the fit & finish were impressive.
This vise is my first experience with a true rotary vise, and "lever jaw" vise. I found it easy to adjust...

Re: A Great Little Vise

I have been thinking of a rotary vise for a few years now.
Looked at the Mayfly 2B on eBay and watched the video linked in the listing. I went ahead and placed my order for one. I should have it by...

Re: echo glass - small or big water?

I think I'll go with the 8'6" rod.
I already have a 6'6" glass 3wt (custom rod) and it's a lot of fun on small water with bluegills.
I have a couple bamboo rods, too - 6wt & 3wt.

echo glass - small or big water?

Thinking of another glass rod.

Has anyone had a chance to cast & compare the Echo (I'm going 5 wt. with this purchase) "small water" rod (7'10") to the 8'6" "big water" rod?

(I like a...

The line is still looking good and working like it should!

I have purchased a few more lines from the same seller, and no problems with any of them. Just put a new 5wt line on my...

Re: He's "hooked"

I'd say you're hooked. :icon_lol:
I've done it, too, and watching the excitement on their faces is more rewarding than spending the time with a pole in your hands.

Re: I didn't catch a big fish today

When they take the line into brush the odds aren't good, but giving them some slack line has worked for me a few times, too.

Re: How young is too young?

I started my son at about 4 years old, but at a pond with plenty of bluegill and with one of those short rod/reel (spincast) outfits. He tried a fly rod at about 7-8 years old, but soon lost interest...

Nice fish, and I'm sure it was fun to catch, but I just have to say they are not a fish I would call pretty.
