Re: Who wants to build a rod for me?

Kevin builds a beautiful rod. Rods can not be produced overnight. Go with someone you can have face to face dealings with.

Do I dare say it? Many of us on this site are far too trusting of...

Re: Let's Build a Rod Together

While the original let's build a rod post is four years old, many of us are navigating the early stages, and building our first rods every day. Don't let that stop you from building one! We, on this...

Re: 2nd build disaster

Great suggestions from these guys! One more if you don't mind... to hold your guides in place when wrapping, so they don't walk up the blank... find some kid with braces, and ask him to get you a...

Re: Shapes here there and everywhere

"Old school glass"??? Nah ... cigar and downlock! Classy/classic!

Actually, that's one of the reasons for building your own! You can do what ever YOU want ... not what someone else thinks you...

Re: Grip help!

Definitely easier to go from too big, to better fit ... but ... do so slowly! You can always take more off, but you can't put it back once gone. Use fine sandpaper, gently, and check often!

Re: The Cheapest

It really bothers me to see someone wanting the very cheapest of anything. I always fear that if it's the cheapest, you'll wind up with a cheap, unwieldy piece of garbage that you'll despise any...

Re: Resolutions. Stupid things I am going to quit doing this year...

I will stop and replace my tippet when a knot first appears in it. That, and the leaders. When they happen. And not wait till a good fish ties into my fly, only to break off. Usually with the ONLY...

Re: Churping fire smoke alarms!

Ahh, yes ... the boys do like the grand entrances! Dontcha love it??:wiggle:

And an FYI. If, just IF, at 1:30 AM, you decide you don't wish to change the battery in your alarm, because it IS...

Re: My built in fire alarms are chuping. WHY??

No, Fred ... it's NOT a good idea to get up on a chair to change the batteries!! A simple call to your local fire department or police station .. NOT A 911 CALL!!! ... and they'll dispatch someone...

Re: Building a rod, full kit vs blank

Came up on this post a bit late in the game....
Thought I'd throw a few things out there, in case you haven't ordered yet, or there are others wondering which way to go on a first build.

Re: The new 'tower room heater' in my office.

Fred, do you have handles/levers on your vent flues down near the furnace? I have three different ones I can open/close/part way to direct the air flow throughout the house. Works well all winter...

Re: First Build

Very, very nicely done! Look forward to reviews after you've caught your first fish on it! Be prepared though ... your feet won't touch the ground for quite some time afterwards!

Re: Whatever happened to mridenour?

Well ... thank you. I accept your apology.

OK ... so how'd that go? Did your humor come back with you? Certainly hope so!

Glad you're back. Really.

Re: First Build

Oh, my! Will be further checking in to this blank! Love the little tiger eye rods I've built, and was sorry to see they were no longer available.

william, you're so right! It's fun to see someone else stumble onto the dark-er side!
Unfortunately, when someone goes there ... and it's a new place, like RDP... they tend to pull others along...

Re: How to strip a rod from it's original components?

PLEASE do NOT use a lighter or a heat gun to remove the left over epoxy. A hair dryer is far safer (ie; to the rod, to your self, to the house ... not having to involve the fire department in the...

Re: Smoothing out a rod when re-wrapping guides

Maaaannnn ... you guys are good!!

Slow, steady, GENTLE ... a little warmth. Warm up the area with a hair dryer on low. SLOWLY, GENTLY use your fingernail to scrape the "bumps" off. It won't...

Re: Old Spinning rod into a Fly Rod

How funny, Rip Tide, that you'd remember that! Yes, a good many years ago we were challenged to build a serviceable fly rod, from a spinning rod ... for under $25! And, proved it can be done very...

Re: Best hip, waist, or sling pack for under $60?

I do agree. I'd rather pay once this price than have to replace the lesser object four or five times over my use span.

Re: Best hip, waist, or sling pack for under $60?

OK ... yes, I know you said $60 ... BUT ... Those guys are all hard cased, or bulky, or strung aaround your neck (choking). This one from Filson is soft, lightweight, and rides in front or in back....
