Re: To fish or not to fish during the outbreak

As stated above, tying may not be what all of us had in mind, but the opportunity is certainly here now. Saddle up to the vice and wrap some flies, if nothing else it promotes daydreaming about...

Re: To fish or not to fish during the outbreak

This is the paragraph in that article that will effectively stop me from my annual April in WY:

"Moreover, every single rural fly shop owner and guide I have spoken with (via email or over the...
  3. Re: Would you pay fee for access to private Blue Ribbon river?

I should have clarified my initial post. A certain portion of my aversion to pay-to-fish is rooted in the abhorrence of how elitist some fly fishing can become. We already have eclipsed the $1,000...
  4. Re: Would you pay fee for access to private Blue Ribbon river?

    No.

There are still (for now) plenty of great stretches of public water in the United States, including Montana, that are chock-full of big trout.

  6. Re: How long would you drive for a pretty good chance to catch a...

I live pretty close to spots with fish that size but I still make the drive to much further places for the sake of variety. I have never constrained myself with distance limits, only weather...
  7. Re: Shallow bonefish blues.. what the heck have I done wrong?

I ended up going with an epoxy head for super shallow bonefish flies (yes, it slows the tying process WAY down!). the round profile landed fairly softly (size 8 hook), tossed on a 6wt line, and lead...
  8. Re: What are you paying for gasoline in your area?

$1.45/gl at Costco this morning in Superior, CO.

    Re: Braided Fishing Line Cutter

Loon scissors work really well, but braid isn't some magic substance, -it's fairly easy to cut with many different implements as noted above.

Re: Reel Love; the Fly Reel Picture Thread

Can't recall if I've posted this, a few of my Charlton reels back a few years ago -

-hat. I've spent too much time in the sun over the past five decades and have an intimate relationship with skin cancer. I won't go out on a sunny day without a hat.

    Re: Sage Dart 376 vs X 376

I'm late to this conversation but thought I might interject a thing or two:

We all likely fish different waters and distances. The same angler placing a fly 20' feet needs a different line (if...

    Re: Wading boot studs questions

I've had Korkers soles come off in loose bottom before and have seen various Korkers soles on riverbanks (North Platte, WY). I still have one pair of Korkers that I've Shoe-goo'd the soles to so...

Re: What Did You Buy Today?

Thanks. This has been a big month for fishing gear expenditures for me (many reels/lines/a few rods/materials/spare boots & waders/etc), much of it due to uncertainty of where things will be in terms...

Re: What Did You Buy Today?

-yeah, all on the same day. Dart (3wt) Asquith (4wt and 5wt). I'll admit: the 8wt ASQ will toss a full line without even putting any effort into it but my move from 99% salt to CO (99% freshwater)...

  19. Re: Supporting the fly fishing industry during this time

In thinking about the health of some of the fly businesses I rely on, I've spent more in the last ten days than I have in the last ten years on rods/reels/materials/lines/etc. My UPS guy (who also...
  20. Re: How does Sage XP compare to VXP and the RPL?

EXIF data on photos. And I take a lot of photos.

This obviously didn't work back in the days of analog (film) but it's proven quite helpful now. I can click "file info" and it will tell me the...

Re: Coronavirus and the travelling angler

  25. Re: Fly line to leader connection - welded loops, nail knot, or something else?

I use a loop on both ends of every fly line. For the bigger fish (tarpon, tuna, etc) it's not the factory welded loop but a braided nylon loop glued/whipped to the fly line. I've never had one fail...
