Re: Streamer fishing with a 3wt?

I've been doing this for years using a 6'6" three weight with a DT 3 line and with a 6'3" five weight using a WF #5 line. Both of those lines will make a Spey type cast (modified roll cast) in tight...

Re: "The Answer" if you like to catch trout

I replaced them just now........

I tied those on 2X long shank hooks size 2 - 4 - 6 and a finished fly would range 1 1/2 to almost 3 inches depending on the hook size and shank.

I used to fish...

Re: Going Ice Breaking In The Morning;

I guess I was lulled into a false sense of security guys. All through September and even October while I was out at the cabin it was rainy and warm. Not much variation between night and day temp wise...

It's been a couple days now and I'm OK to talk about it................

I guess that first you have to understand what the goal was when I had called a fellow to see if he wanted to join me for...

Re: "The Answer" if you like to catch trout

This is a very old thread and I just took a look at the image attachments, they are not correct. We have switched software since this was originally posted and obviously this set of images didn't...

Re: Trout coloration vs size vs age vs origin

A best guess would be that the fish who remain stained from the tannin content of the water during low flow conditions are the resident fish. The lighter and I believe you said larger fish are most...

Re: Going Ice Breaking In The Morning;

Thanks fellas,

Up since 5:30 leaving at 7:30, it will not be light enough to drive the boat until at least 8:30. It's about 18 degrees where I'm headed according to the internet weather with a...

Going Ice Breaking In The Morning;

You guys will have to keep things going through the night and tomorrow, I've gotta hit the hay and go break some ice. The weather is changing way faster than I had thought and the rivers up north...

Re: Help Identifying a fly

I've never seen one just like that but it has the look of something you would use for silvers here.

By the way, you can use the same technique you used to put that one image in to post ten into...

Re: If You Started a Blog here on the forum, I have a question.

It's what I wrote on the signature line ten years ago Dave when I joined the forum group, many things have changed but that saying holds true I think. I used to live in Pennsylvania and so understand...

Re: Question about fly line maintenance

I'll break rank here and admit to using line dressings. Two products; Umpqua Glide and Overton's Supreme silicon paste. The Overton product is something new, I figured that their Wonder Wax was so...

Re: If You Started a Blog here on the forum, I have a question.

That should work Steve, when I see a number in the posting info under the green boxes I click there too. I was able to read and comment, I do hope this isn't one of those things where I can see and...

Re: High-Sticking with Short, lightweight rods

As long that you match the size of the rod to the size of the creek it's going to work great. That's always been my experience whether dry fly, streamer, or nymph fishing.

Re: Sink tip streamer fishing for smallmouth - too heavy.

There will be no calls for your head from me. I haven't touched a ten or fifteen foot sink tip for many years. The mini head system I demonstrated in a video I made (posted in the Spey sub forums)...

I ask because a number of years ago my wife and I were outside at the cabin at about 1:00 AM on a very cold February morning to see if there were any active northern lights, we saw something and to...

Re: Fly Fishing Go Bag/Bug Out Bag

Creature of habit here, been using the same bag for about 33 years. In my other life I was a grouse hunter who trained pointers. I belonged to the Ruffed Grouse Society and at the 1884 / 85 banquet I...

I call those "come Back fish" because as long that you haven't pricked the fish you can generally raise them again. A few pages back on my blog here there is a story called, "Going To...

Re: What's In Your Yard?

I'm going to buy a telescope but haven' settled on which one yet. I have a 300 mm lens for my Nikon but unless I enlarge the moon it looks small. Is that the International Space Station?

Re: how to break off a fish

My streamer rigs are stepped down in tolerance from a 50 pound double loop at the tip of the fly line to the 12 pound tippet. Various connections are 25 or 35 pound so if a fish breaks off it is the...
