Re: 6wt for general pupose fly fishing

Exactly what Fenix said. If you're doing close stuff and need some extra weight to load the rod, look at the single handed spey lines. The first 20 feet of the Wulff 5 wt ambush line weighs like...

Re: Worse than heroin...

You're still good. When it get serious you start feeling guilty and make up stories about where you've been. Stories that make fishing appear as the lesser of two evils. Things like "... ran into...

Re: Level Leaders

I seem to use a "stepped" leader more than any. 4-5 feet of heavy material with 3-6 feet of tippet. Material size depends on fly size.

Re: Massachusetts Trout Stocking.... and a bit of a rant.

Yes, a frustrating situation. I like the Delayed Harvest concept North Carolina has on marginal waters. They will stock the waters in the Fall and early Spring. The normal catch and keep season...

Re: pick a stream, any stream

I was just referencing the end of the C&R/delayed harvest season. There's nothing wrong with it, many of the delayed harvest waters can't maintain fish all year (low flow, water temp). It's a good...

Re: Walleye

Yes, they are. I caught some on kreelex minnows in the Miracle Mile near the upper campground.

Re: pick a stream, any stream

One day, first week of June, trout? That will be after the great WNC troutfish fry (end of delayed harvest/C&R). The lower part of the Tuck has some good smallmouth. For one day - I'd head to...

Re: Tired of getting snagged - maybe nymph jig hooks?

Madison320 - another way to attach those indicators is to tie a uni-knot of some light thread (flyline backing works well) on the leader, then attach the indicator to a tag end of the uni-knot. The...

Re: Bag or vest

I wish it was as simple as "or" for me, but I complicate lots of things. I almost always wear a lightweight, small capacity vest. In it I keep "common" stuff (leaders, sinking tippets, tippet...

Re: Every day....?

Interesting topic, thanks for launching it. One of the great things about fishing is the broad spectrum. We are a very diverse lot. I like that. My friends and family think I fish a lot, but not...

Re: Rock snot mystery solved

I seem to remember phosphorus being painted as an "evil" element and restrictions being placed on its use. A timeline and map distribution of didymo and phosphorus restrictions might be interesting...

Re: Where would you go???

Yes, that's the one. The fishing may not be great, but the fishing history is outstanding. Sometimes known as the Sea of Galilee.

Re: Where would you go???

Yes, loads of fun to look at and dream. Fun stuff to spark imagination. My "will never happen" choice is to fly fish Lake Kinneret - I might not even cast, just stand there and absorb.

Re: Is the dip in fly fishing just a cycle

As Trout Trekker said - there are lots of variables. Without knowing how the interest in FF is measured, it is a tough task to do any analysis. Accurate analysis is impossible.

Re: Help me understand rod weights!

7 wt will probably serve you well. I've been imprinted that rod weight choice is not tightly tied to fish hunted. Rod weight is coupled to line weight and line weight is tied to fly size (heavier...

I've been doing much the same with Vaseline. Coat the threads and bottle necks, seems to keep much better.

So, when years and years worth of sediment is flushed, where does it land? What impact on the landing spot?

Re: Gear Trade-In Programs?

I've struggled with that decision in the past. Now, I "fire sale" price them or donate them. Un-fished equipment is sort of like unread books. I don't do a balance sheet or profit/loss statement...
