    Re: Sunglasses/brands

I also like the Cocoons; I wear them over my regular glasses and they work great.

Re: Euro Nymphing Low Cost Rod Options

Try a tenkara or keiryu rod:

Teton Tenkara: Czech nymphing, did you say? Here's the rod for you -- Daiwa Keiryu-X 33.

    Re: Camp Stove Recommendations

I tried posting a link to a homemade aluminum can stove site but a lot of gobbledygook got inserted. You can look it up if interested..

By the way, my brother lives in NYC and he bought a few...

    Re: Camp Stove Recommendations

I have one of those old Coleman 2-burner propane stoves for car camping. Whoever said it is indestructible is right; I think this ancient thing crossed the Rubicon with Caesar, and it is still going...

    Re: Furled Leaders

I use furled leaders sometimes, and I guess like everything else they seem to have pros and cons. I started building a jig to make my own furled leaders, but it has stalled; my daughter's fiance has...

Poll: Re: Best starter rod outfit

Wakefield, RI? Great place. I grew up in Cranston, and we spend a week in Narragansett every summer. Caught a lot of bluefish in kayaks a couple of weeks ago, just off Pier 5. Saw a seal out there, I...
  7. Re: The cost of salami cheese and pickle sandwiches - amongst other things we take to

A local pundit with a well know sweet tooth once said "Fun size? It's smaller! What's fun about that?!"
  8. Re: The cost of salami cheese and pickle sandwiches - amongst other things we take to

Last time I went fishing I forgot to bring a rod. So I just walked the dog around the lake.

Why do people even go there? Is the fishing that bad elsewhere in New Mexico?

    Re: Catch and Keep mandatory?

In Yellowstone if you catch lake trout you have to keep them or kill them, as they are invasive and destructive to the cutthroat population. I think there is another fish you have to kill (I only...

Re: Simms Guide Wet Wading Socks

That's generally what I do, but if I have a long hike they bother my feet unless I have some kind of socks on.

Re: Simms Guide Wet Wading Socks

I have the same question. I have Simms Ripraps that I wear without socks (as long as I don't have to walk too far) or smart wool socks. I thought about trying those Simms socks but wonder if they...
  14. Re: Do you fish on SUPs or Kayaks? Which one do you prefer?

Last week I was fishing in Narragansett Bay, RI, and chatted with a guy who was on a Hobie kayak with pedals. I have to say, that had significant advantages.

    Re: Rod Length...Genuine Differences?

Considering a fishing rod to be a class three lever, I would think a shorter rod would be better for fighting big fish. The longer the lever the more mechanical advantage you are giving the fish.
  16. Re: Do you fish on SUPs or Kayaks? Which one do you prefer?

Kayak. I have a WS Tarpon 120 that works for me. My brother just bought an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 that is very nice. Each has its pros and cons.
  17. Re: I'm sure it's been asked but I'm pretty new here.

I wash my lines once a year, at the end of the season before putting them away for the winter.

    Re: Fishhook Removal Trick

My brother fishes with lures with multiple treble hooks and I keep a bolt cutter in the first aid kit. Haven't had to use it yet (knock wood).
  19. Re: Complete guide to Fly Fishing in Montenegro

I just said to my non-fishing wife "Hey, while we are in Croatia we should visit Montenegro," and she didn't dismiss it out of hand, so it is possible. Is it close enough for a day trip? It is a big...

    Re: Fishhook Removal Trick

I've tried all different methods in the field and in the ER with variable success. The only "good" method is the barbless hook. Among the others there are "less bad" methods.

I am actually going to be visiting Dubrovnik next summer, pretty close, right?

Not to change the subject, but what magic adhesive do dentists use? Gluing shiny nonreactive metal to bone in a wet environment should be a recipe for failure, but they can do it. (Random thought...

Re: Fenwick Aetos or Echo XL 5wt 9ft

Yeah, I don't get the obsession with cork. The handles of all my rods seem pretty similar (except my keiryu rod which has some kind of hard rubber on the handle). I will have to go look at expensive...

Poll: Re: Do you buy or tie?

    Re: Questionable behaviour

By the way, if you are looking for some light summer reading, check out "Double Whammy" by Carl Hiassen. It is a zany crime novel typical of Hiassen,...
