Re: The official NAFFF rant thread......

My rant will focus on the thought that every trout is caught within 30 feet, and quick recovering rods are broomsticks. These posters obviously weren't fishing with me last weekend while I was...

Re: PA in August from Milford advicr

Another option is the Neversink River in NY. It's also a NYC watershed tailwater but not as big or productive as the West Branch of the Delaware.

    Re: Southeast NY: Catskills/Delaware advice

Your best option is the upper West Branch. By upper I literally mean as close to the Cannonsville dam as you can get.
  4. Re: Visiting from South Africa - want to do fishing.

Coming in July I would recommend you visit the upper West Branch of the Delaware. It's a cold tail water that has good fishing during these hot months. I saw a new shop when I was up there last week...
  5. Re: Visiting from South Africa - want to do fishing.

What is the date of your trip? The Catskill mountains are about a 3 hour car ride from NYC and offer really good trout fishing. I asked about the date because many of the rivers get warm for trout...

    Re: Building a Trout Quiver

You don't need to worry about tippet protection in May on the Delaware. You'll mainly be casting size 12 - 14 flies using 4X, and sometimes maybe 5X.
If you plan to fish the Upper West in July -...

Re: Looking for a new rod, pulaski

I quit fishing for Kings in NYS because of the crowds. If you plan to fish a public section, I suggest the most powerful rod you can find. It's combat fishing with guys standing shoulder to shoulder....
  10. Re: How do you view the idea of closing streams to try and save them

NY stocks streams to create enough opportunities for the license paying fisherman. The Brook trout populations in NY, PA and NJ were decimated a long time ago, mainly by logging. We continue to hurt...

    Re: Central PA or Catskills?

To me both places offer good trout fishing. IMO the Roscoe area offers more "big water" boat fishing at the 2 branches and mainstem of the Delaware, and wading at the Beaverkill and Willow. NC Pa...

Re: Using bigger tippet for small flies

Depending on the conditions, I like to use the largest tippet that will fit in the hook eye. I caught 2 browns last week on a size 18 bwo dry with 4X tippet. Not ideal but it was getting dark and the...

    Otto,
Where did that fish come from?
I ask because the one I posted above came from the Neversink.

Re: Foul Hooking trout when Nymphing?

I had a flash back to this post while fishing today. I was swinging 2 flies, a hares ear soft hackle and a tan caddis wet. I had a pretty good morning landing about 10 stockies. The strangest thing...

  22. Re: Float fishing advice, lots of different questions

The Delaware is where I normally drift my pontoon and your right, the wind can have a huge effect on the trip.
  23. Re: Float fishing advice, lots of different questions

IMO an 8 mile drift in a pontoon boat will be a challenge to do in 3 hrs. Especially if as Ard said, if you have wind in your face. It usually takes me about 8-10 hours to complete an 8 mile drift...

ONYX 130900-701-004-16 M-16 Belt Pack Grey Life Jacket

I use a wading belt PFD (like the one in the link)when fishing from my pontoon, and sometimes when wading on a larger river.

Re: Barbless Hook Performance - lost fish

My state changed the wild trout regs in 2018 to barbless only. I haven't noticed losing more fish yet, but I have noticed that most fish get unbuttoned after I net them and the line goes slack....
