I definitely tie. It is part of the entire fishing experience for me. However...I do not think you can save money by tying vs. buying.

just gave them a test this past weekend at the flyfishing show held in Marlborough Mass.

Components looked solid, cast fine...just not for me. I like a little slower action overall for my casting...

and that is about it...covers just about everything on the small streams near me. Occasionally I may add a streamer...

if you are targetting trout on small streams with dries a 3 wt is fine.
I have a TFO pro series 3 weigth 7'6" in length. Right in the budget that you have. But...I also fish the 5 weight on some...

It was a good read. More instructional than his other books but still enjoyable.

I do agree with you last statement. Bait guys...and I am one of them do get very tightlipped at times.

Flyguys/gals tend to be more open about patterns and flies, but can be very quiet...
