    Re: ID on a rod

Looks like Carlin does have some rods with an Amboyna Burl reel insert see picture 197 of 232 in his gallery. You could probably ask where he gets them. He does use some custom Bellinger reel seats....

    Re: Sunfish- post your pics

Here is something different. Just to point out not all sunfish are small, here is a picture of an Ocean (or Pacific) Sunfish. They can't swim to well (top speed is around 2mph) mostly they drift with...
  5. Re: Testing 8wt rods at the Pleasanton Fly Show this weekend

    Gooner,

It was a nice rod if you like very fast rods, you want to cast far and you have big hands. Now of course the grip can be sanded to meet your comfort level.

It was a little too stiff...

  7. Re: Help on line selection for a Howald Wonderrod by Shakespeare

I don't normally see to many people when I fish as I normally park/fish away from others and if not then I hike in. I also only get the bug to use use it maybe 3-4 times per year. I have had many...
  8. Re: Help on line selection for a Howald Wonderrod by Shakespeare

    Silver,
Yes, I actually use that reel with that rod. It reminds me of how far we have come. The reel seat on that rod is spring loaded so I thought the automatic reel was perfect for it and they...
  9. Re: Help on line selection for a Howald Wonderrod by Shakespeare

I have a 9'0" Howald Wonderrod by Shakespeare, model no. 1380T, it is rated the same line designations as the 1370. I use a long belly line or a DT 6WFF line on it and it works great. The only issue...

    Re: A tough approach

From the looks of the man standing on the far bank that is a big deep pool. It is kinda of hard to judge distances, speed and depth but those fish look like they may be 15' deep.

    I would approach...

    Re: WTB Eastern Trout Assortment

Definitely pay attention to Silver but, in addition contact Jerry (hairwing) and explain what you want. He will tie up a really nice box of flies that will hold up well and work excellent for you.

  14. Re: Testing 8wt rods at the Pleasanton Fly Show this weekend

Took the Zephrus out to the casting ponds today.

Tried it with 4 different lines and 3 different reels. I really like this rod and I found I like a reel that weighs about 6-6.5 ounces. Putting a...

Yep I would definitely reach for the one at 4 o'clock to tie on first, it looks like a winner.

I think the first was a good idea but does not look like your style, looks like you tried something new.

Re: Fishing with a... Spinner Rod

I am with Ard. I recommend you just bring fly rods. To bring a spinning rod just admits defeat before you even try, but if you want to bring a spinning rod then you will need fresh 6lb test.

Re: SA Anadro and Orvis Recon 8wt: 7 or 8?

I would suggest the SA Mastery Series Steelhead line. I use it on my older Recon in 6wt and recently tested it on the newer Recon in 8wt. It is on closeout now at some good prices.
