Hi Ard,
It is only hackle on the hook. Four feathers in the front shaped with the scissor. Used a silver ribb to make it strong in front. Back of the hookshank the fluffy fibres from the feather.
The tailing strands is hackle stems.

Hi Ard,

Here is a slick way to make super heads. When you get ready to finish the head you tie in some acetate thread or floss. Cover the head completely with the thread or floss and then use a solvent to melt the acetate. The thread or floss will melt and form a solid head. I think the solvent was acetone to melt the acetate. I use to make ants this way and it was slick. It is not something you want to do everyday but with this level of tying it may be worth the effort.
