The Blob. { uk's most effective pattern }.

It is !!!, yes it's horrible but without a boubt the blob has to be the most effective pattern in the u.k.., deadly on small and large stillwaters.

This is a dark sunburst varient.

I'd reckon if you lead/weight the blob and try it on your rivers you should experience some good sport. { especially with pink fritz .}


Hook. Hayabusa nickel, short shank 6.
Body. Sunburst large boosted fritz.

If you took out a pole over here, it may not reach the top !, that's simply because poles over here are dictated by a majority of traditionalists who look down on this kind of pattern. The blob is noted for being cast out as far as possible on a sinking line and ripped back at high speed, showing little use for application of skill, hence fround upon, but there are many other way's to fish it that require a level of skill.
In short, for out and out fish catching qualities, the blob wins.

A friend of mine somehow got a card of that sunburst boostered fritz and gave me a two foot length of it. I tied it on a #8 TMC 105 and fished it on a small Sierra stillwater. I got a lot of hookups from smaller Brown Trout. It really pissed them off. Then I went to fishing my soft hackle wet fly. I got as many hookups with that, but the fish were bigger.

I feel that the blob makes a great search pattern. I keep a few in my box.

I got a lot of hookups from smaller Brown Trout. It really pissed them off. Then I went to fishing my soft hackle wet fly. I got as many hookups with that, but the fish were bigger.

Sorry, i should have clarified better!, for us the blob works mainly on our rainbows, { our stillwaters are predominatly stocked with rainbows and some browns }, The blob will account for stocked browns but you'd be really lucky over here to get a wild brownie to take one, as you say the hackled wets will usually rule for browns......... bibio's, kate Mclarens etc for us.

I've just never heard of a boosted fritz.:frogdance

Gotta admit, I have been tying many years and that Boosted Fritz is new to me also.

I did find some sunburst Bunny that made a fly that rocked on trout at an Idaho lake

Then my big old CAMP FIRE did well on the Metal fish, or so I was told...someday I will get up there and find out for myself:
