last year for deep runnoff and big split shot, i used a ds2 7wt.. it worked quite well, but could exhaust me after a couple days, on a trip..,, dont know if i can get help with that, other than getting into better shape.. im looking at upgrading to the 6 z axis with rio nymph line.. the dealer tells me the z axis is a smoother xp..? any way im going to use this for wind, longer casts, bigger nymphs, deep water, ... ive already purchased a 5wt b2x for the light stuff and easy days, and just relaxed fishing... do you think these two rods would compliment each other? ... and is the (xp)/z axis good for presentation and fighting fish?? that is, not too stiff for the other non casting duties? thanks, any coments welcome... dave..

I had a DS1 and very nice rod, but it is a med action rod. The Z Axis is going to be a much faster rod. You would be able to cast into the wind with no effort (of course as you said, this is up to you). The Z Axis is a beautiful action and feeling rod. It might spoil you for the other rod because they are going to be two different feels all together. Myself, I like the difference, I have many rods for many moods.

Here's the rod I use for the situation you're describing. http://www.beulahflyrods.com/6wt.html I really like the action, looks, and performance of it, and it will cast more similarly to your DS1 than that new super fast Sage would. It being less than half the cost is pretty nice as well.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.
