Used to go to the Bridgeport area every year for many years but never in the winter. There used to be an area north of town where military cold weather survival training was held. May still have it. Anyway, Robinson creek near there was always good too.

The Marines do a lot of training all over that area. There's a campground at Lake Kirman that they cut through at night. Freaks you out to see a bunch of soldiers running through your camp at 3 in the a.m.

isnt that military camp toward the west walker?
you should never get mad over losing a fish on a fly rod.
you should be happy enough just knowing that you
tricked that fish into hitting an artificial fly.

A shallow lake and lower flows increase the temps to the point it can be lethal to play the fish (68+). That doesn't mean they won't eat, just that they may not survive your fun.
Go early season, then give them a break if possible until fall, cools things down.
    The fish thank you!
Ultimately, it's not catching fish that satisfies, but knowing how.
