To say it's been a bit damp in these parts would be a gross understatement. Biblical rains arrived a couple weeks ago and while they didn't make me take to arc making, they at least made me stop poking fun at the people that were..

Well, yesterday my friend and I ventured out to see if there was anything resembling fishable water and our favorite stream was actually fairly fishable in the upper stretches. Armed with my trusty 7'6 3wt Winston and years of casting experience in tight quarters I headed into the bush.

Several nice fish were enticed by bushy western style dry flies such as 14 Kaufman Stimulators and Orange Humpys. Sure a beefy nymph in high water will certainly produce but I subscribe to the theory of a well known fly fishing author of "a 12 inch fish caught on a dry fly is a good three inches longer than a 12 inch fish caught on a nymph...."

Nice looking creek you got there Russell. Is it a secret or can you say where it is? I used to live in Springfield MO a few years back, that's were I started fly fishing.

Russell: Thanks for the fishing report, I also like the looks of that little stream, looks like a dream to fly fish! Hopefully, the heavy rains are all behind you.

Looks like a beautiful place to fish.
Yes, it certainly is and because they are wild fish and spooky not many people ever fish the creek. I live in a state that has aggressively stocked streams that require daily tags. Most would rather go to the stocked areas with un-spookable hatchery clones than go to an area where one false move will put the run down.

As this is the case the amount of fisherman that you can see in the image represents rush hour. :D

And I am officially jealous. The thunderstorms down here have turned my usual spots into stretches of river that would make the Mississippi jealous. I think I saw a river boat casino the other day.

Nothing like some small stream, ninja style fishing!
