Well with the IGFA Offshore Championship concluded for another year. Final Results for the IGFA Offshore Championship in Cabo San Lucas. The team representing the 2010 Offshore Championship walked away with first place this year. With almost 400 Striped Marlin caught during the first three days on by 47 teams from over 20 countries.
Cabo San Lucas is defiantly the Marlin capital of the world. The winners of the tournament are the following:
First Place 2012 IGFA Offshore World Champions
Second Place Master Dolphins Fisherman
Third Place 7th Campeonato Int de Pesca Grossa de Portimao.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memoriable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accommodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
BAIT: Caballito are in abundance this week with not to many Mackerel. The bait is at the standard 3$ a piece.
FISHING: This past week weather wise started off hot and summer like in the 90,s and then mid way through the week air temperatures dropped to the low 60,s in the mornings to 75 to 80 degrees in the day time. Our warm water from the previous week was still in the area, but we finished the week with some real cold water moving in to different areas of our local fishing grounds. The wind has played a big part in the fishing this past week. . We had some really howling days in the afternoons. While the water was warm, the area of the 1150 to San Jose Canyon is where lots of Marlin were caught. Punta Gorda area also saw lots of action for Striped Marlin. There were some Dorado while the water was still warm, but that changed later on in the week when cold water moved in. Our week started with the water between Cabo San Lucas and the East Cape at 75-77 until Tuesday, but by Wednesday the water to the Gorda Banks had cooled to 70 degrees with the East Cape still seeing 76 degree water. Wednesday night things started to change and on Thursday morning the area between Cabo and San Jose had dropped to 61 degrees and the Punta Gorda area was only 64 degrees, with green and dirty water. On the Pacific side the water was as cold as 54 degrees along the coast with green and dirty water. The fishing was good all through the tournament with really the last day being the slowest as the cold water moved in. Our boats have still been catching fish, as we did land Marlin on live bait and lures. Some Wahoo were also caught . The Tuna bite has been really not happening . I think we will have to wait for some warm water to see any Tuna. Inshore saw some nice Rooster fish being caught from the Arch to Chileno Bay. Lots of Sierras and Yellowtail being caught from the Arch to the light house on the pacific side. Amberjack was also reported being caught off the Arch up to the pump station.
BEWARE: Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat.
