If you are thinking of heading to western North Carolina, you may want to consider this:

More than three quarters of North Carolina is now suffering from drought conditions, and several western counties are extremely dry according to climate figures released by the U.S. Drought Monitor. North Carolina's seven westernmost counties - Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain face the worst conditions. It is also said that all counties west of I-26 face severe drought conditions.

As of June 1, Asheville had seen just 11.82 inches of rain since the beginning of the year - more than 8 inches off its average, according to the National Weather Service.

The drought hasn't gotten any better here. As of 10/18 we were around 18" below our normal rainfall.

Looks like we are getting a few days of much needed rain. Thank the good lord for that.
