Haha...I completely missed that one. I knew your name didn't fit perfectly but as one whose name is frequently mispronounced even by long-time acquaintances and friends, I was OK with that!

I have a small 10 foot angler kayak that I use for small lakes around SC and have used in rivers before but really would prefer to wade and not boat. Either way I am open to any suggestions for trout fishing near or around Memphis. I prefer rivers but I am open to stillwater suggestions as well!
It's a ways from Memphis , but I hit the Caney Fork on the east side of Nashville on a trip last May and starting at the visitors center (they even have a parking lot for fishermen) with the water high but clear I was into decent size (16-18") Browns on like my second cast...when the water was down I waded a little further up stream and found great fishing by the "BOAT SLOPE" sorry can't call it a ramp as its like a 60 degree SLOPE to the water, you'd need a tracked vehicle to pull a trailer up it...but the fishing was outstanding...nymphs-dries-streamers they ate everything with gusto.

    Andrew,

I live in Memphis. Check out the Mid-South Fly Fishers Club (Mid-South Fly Fishers)

It's an awesome and active club. With regards to trout. There is North Arkansas, and the Caney Fork as mentioned. Also believe it or not during the winter they stock some local ponds with trout.

    Welcome to town!

As others have said; You are not all that far from some pretty good trout both east and west.

Read up on the Arkansas stuff, The Missouri Ozark stuff and then the more eastern TN and KY stuff. I live in Southernmost Illinois and have to drive South to get to good cold trout and small mouth water but its not that far and the water is great and the scenery is beautiful. Oh, yea, the fish are great also.

As to warm water, well, you will just have to experience it. The bass (LM) fishing can be amazing. Time of year etc will play into it as I am sure you know. Then there is the gill fishing. Almost every pond of any size is well equipped with gills......

I grew up south of Memphis close to Sardis reservior, the bass fishing is good, the crappie fishing can be incredible at times, the bluegill fishing is a sport unto its self but the catfish is king. But the White river in Arkansas is a bucket list trout trip and you'll be in driving distance
The fisherman now is one who defies society, who rips lips, who drains the pool, who takes no prisoners, who is not to be confused with the sissy with the creel and bamboo rod. Granted, he releases what he catches, but in some cases, he strips the quarry of its perilous soul before tossing it back in the water. What was once a trout – cold, hard, spotted and beautiful – becomes “number seven.”
