GSMNP in Mid-August
My family and I are going to spend a week in East Tennessee near GSMNP and the surrounding area in mid-August. I know that's not a great time to fish, but that is when we're able to go and I'll make the most of it. Although we'll be visiting Gatlinburg, etc. I don't really care about our proximity to those places. I want to stay as close as possible to the area's I'll be most wanting to fish. (the shorter the drive to fish the better, driving distance to other activities doesn't matter much) My problem is I've never been there and I don't know where that is.

Would it be better to be closer to Townsend or near Gatlinburg/Pittman Center?

Not much difference in the two but i guess the family things you would stay in Gatlinburg. Nice fly shop in Townsend.
