    Yes you do, when you make the arbor knot attaching the backing it is helpful to have the reel turned as it would be in use. That prevents tying a knot that you tie from being made backward. Although that isn't a huge problem they will slide if backward.......

    For stipping line off reels, I put a bolt thru a water/soda bottle cap, screw the bottle on and put the bold in the drill chuck. With mono from the spin reels, the bottle goes in the recycle with the line on it.
    I use the the same method when I turn my DT lines around.
