I have the 7WT 13’ and it’s a great rod, light in hand, fast but a good taper and loading. In loading experiments I was casting a 50’ 600 grain scandi a very good distance and the rod was way overloaded but performed well. Ultimately I settled for a true to weight line.

I mostly have cast and fished a Rio scandi long with tips 60’ head to fly and was banging out casts 100 to 140 feet or more all day long with very minimal fatigue. I did fish my 510 grain skagit head and T-11 tip with intruder very well also.

Where I was fishing distance is the name of the game.

With a good reel I felt confident I could land fish up to the 25lb class confidently.

Was using a 9’ 6wt on guided trips the last 12 months. I think it’s a bit softer than most Sage “fast action” rods. It’s forgiving as well. Has an extremely cheap looking reel seat like most Sage rods made in the the last two years. Broke at one of ferrules after 13 months of use. I wouldn’t buy another one.

I also had the 13’ 7wt Spey and hated the uplocking reel seat so I sold it after 4 months.
