Anyone have experience with this rod. I am wanting to try a spey setup for trout and smallmouth streamers on medium sized rivers. Would this be a good starter?

I use it for GL steelhead. It's a very fun rod but may be a bit overkill for trout and bass, I would maybe look at the 6126 or something a little smaller. It's a decent starter spey as you can feel the rod load deep, just don't rush the cast.

Perfect rod for west coast steelhead, but way too much rod for trout and bass. Two handed rods have a different line rating system than single handers, so I'd look in the 3-5 weight range for the fish you're targeting, with a 4 weight as a good all around and a 5 for bigger fish and heavier flies. If you're interested in that line of rods I've cast the 4 weight echo glass switch, which is 10' 8", and it's a nice rod for trout. I bet it would be nice for stream smallies too.
