Hello,

What switch rods would you recommend for throwing 330 or so grain skagit heads.

This would be for wade fishing light salt or smallies in the river

Thanks!

Hi Camren,

Look to the various rod manufacturer's websites for grain ratings for their rods. Most have some sort of guidance included in the specs.

Right off the top of my head you sound like a 11'6" or 11 foot six weight to me. If you are going long don't cut yourself short on rod, that's kinda a play on words huh :)

Like Ard says, check out the manufacturer's recommendations for each rod. Also check out Rio's spey and switch line chart on their website, it lists most rods out there and line recommendations for each.
For a 330 grain skagit I think you're looking at a 5 weight switch, maybe a 5/6. I fish an 11' 5/6 weight with a 330 or 350 grain scandi for wading in the salt myself. That's a lot of rod for the typical river smallie, but it's great for average sized fish you run into around the edges of the saltwater flats.
