Default High plains stillwater and a visit to a familiar place

Mrs. Bagels and I packed some necessities and headed back to the open spaces and thin, clean air of Wyoming for the holidays. While there, I had to swing by the first place I ever caught a fish (summer of '84) to see if it was still cooking. Hesitant, anxious, and a bit concerned that those memories I have might be all that's left of this once great little high plains lake. We arrived at night and pitched the tent. A few rises and swirls on the surface indicted the morning would be good.

Picture perfect. And it didn't take long.

I always look taller in photos.

The fishing slowed down so we made a trip into town to visit some old haunts and see what's shaking.

Great to see some things don't change! Now we're back in Tejas and I'm preparing for another adventure. Stay fishy my friends, and dare to believe that every now and then, you CAN go home. Werd.

    Joey

I lived in Laramie for 13 years and had a lot of fun exploring those sage brush lakes around there, good that you had such a great time fishing and thanks for sharing all the great photos!

Brand new on this forum, but live in Laramie. Lots of good plains lakes here in addition to mountain lakes for trout. Many of the best are private on local ranches, but the public ones are still a lot of fun.

Spent the morning with no wind and trout feeding on top at a public lake that Game & Fish has been working to re-establish after years of decline. I just hope they can get enough of a reservoir pool to avoid winter kill so these 16-inchers can grow bigger next year.

Nice that they are trying, because this lake was great in the late 90s but they didn't have enough water to keep it productive. Now they have some additional water rights, but I'm not sure it will be enough for the fish to survive the winter.

I miss It too. Was a great fishery until the drought hit it.
