    Lol...very true.

Whats the average fly line length..85-90 feet? Thats what i consider a bomb. If you can cast the whole line...its a bomb...wish i could!

I only get about 65'-70' off a cast, but at that distance my accuracy suffers. I usually try to get within 30'-40' feet of the fish, if not closer.

I agree with the 80 foot mark as a long cast. WF fly line lengths vary but the average would be 90 feet. A Rio gold is 90 ft and a Rio GRand is 100 ft. Orvis vary from 90 for 10 to 7 Wt and 105 for 8 wt and above. Cortland lines are 90 ft.

To cast the entire fly line you would need about a 105 - 108 ft cast, 90 foot for the fly line, 9 ft for the fly rod and 9 feet for the leader. That is 108 feet.

The Cortland 555 "Little Tunny" is (or at least was) 125 feet
I always thought that was wishful thinking

I consider the cast to start from where your standing. So that 9 ft inside the tip of your rod is actually 9 free feet. Thats how I see most competitions anyway. From the line where your standing and out.

I would also say that there are only a very very small minority of people out there that can toss a 90' 5wt line to the backing. If your hitting 80' feet you are casting futher than most out there.

I understood the FFF measurement for distance was reel to fly. This would include the leader.
