    Default Fast action 8wt

I just acquired a TFO TiCr 8wt (not the TiCrX) for large streamers/smallmouth/light salt water. I'm a medium action guy as my other 5 rods are all medium actions. I'm wondering about the adjustments I'll have to make to cast this rod. I'm planning on loading it with a 15' sink tip Rio line that is 109 gr 7" per sec sink. I realize that this sink tip line will counter some of the faster action of the rod. Looking for any advice or experience you guys have on this.

With a rod that fast action, a 109gr sink tip won't even manage to load the rod. I would look more in the 200-300gr range for an 8 weight fast action rod. The worst thing you could do would be to underline a fast action rod.

pay attention to the rod and you will adjust.

I use medium action rods for all my dry and creek work and faster to fast action rods for nymphs and streamer an I have no problem adjusting my cast to each rid.

listen to the rod...for distance work your sink tip is fine.

Update, I ended up with a RIO 24' 300 gr sink tip for the above mentioned 8wt. It took some adjustments on my timing but this thing is a rocket launcher. When my timing is on it throws the tightest loops I've ever thrown, As far as loading the rod this line loads so much energy its a monster. I'm working on my double haul now in hopes of going to the Destin Fla. area in a couple of weeks to chase whatever will bite in the surf or inlets. I don't know much about salt but I've tied Clousers in several colors and can't wait.

Good call on the line mass. That should help.

When in doubt, Clousers and Deceivers are go to baitfish pattern. A variety of sizes and colors should work out.
