    Hi Clayed,

    I'll put it all in a slightly different way. The objective, regardless of the distance cast, is to time the maximum rod bend late enough in the casting stroke so that it cannot begin unbending too soon.

    If it does, the rod tip will pop up into the path of the line it is dragging along and the line will either hit the rod or likely cause a tail.

    But if that unbending (or unloading, if you prefer) happens when the rod angle is low enough to the horizon, then it will unbend towards the ground not the sky.
