    Wilky,

That should do nicely. I have a 9'6" Greys Platinum X 7wt. and it is a wonderful rod to use. You can use it to fish for trout / steelhead, and I have landed four king salmon with it. Make sure you get a big enough reel.

Vince: Congrats on the new rod, I think you will find the Greys rod a very nice casting rod from what I have heard from other members on the forum.

    Hi wilky,

A 7/8 may be a bit big if Trout are all you are after. A 5/6 reel will work just fine. I think you will get a lot of recommendations if you give us a budget.

    Vince,
Enjoy your new rod. Greys makes some nice sticks that perform like rods at higher price points.

You don't necessarily need a 7/8 reel. If the reel has an outer diameter of 3.25" - 3.5" (for a modern large arbor) and the capacity to hold about 100 yards of 20 pound test backing and a 6 weight line, you will be fine.
