I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

Being "one with nature" requires a knowledge of what animals are living nearby and a weapon of sufficient magnitude to give you at minimum an equal chance of survival. No one has an invisible aura that animals can detect and sense your good intentions.

Thanks guys! Another trip over the bar and into a new age. Can't believe I'll be collecting social security next year........! Where did 24 go, anyway?

Ard, no, I wasn't working on the rod that I'm building. But I was, as it turns out, coming to the end of a rod that I've been "working on" for awhile now.

Since we moved to a place on a tidal river, I've been mentioning Shad to my wife, Marty; about every other word at the dinner table; trying to get the hint out there firmly. I've also been talking about the tight quarters along the river's edge and how Spey casting seems to get one around that particular problem. I've also "introduced" her to my new favorite fly shop; which just happens to have a nice selection of spey rods.

Well, tonight I got a new Sage VXP 13'3" 7 wt. spey rod for my birthday! So, needless to say, I'm a cloud nine camper and I'm going to be doing some test casting with it tomorrow morning; just as soon as there's enough light to see the line on the snow!

Who knows, maybe there's a hold-over fish out there somewhere............

    Thanks again!

Whoooops! Spey casting will have to wait for another day. A tree fell on our house this morning!

Imagine - living in the Poconos for almost 10 years in a house surrounded by 50, 100-year old pines and firs; lots of wind, never a downed tree.

Move to Northshore MA, well cleared lot, no obvious tree problems and a renegade gust comes through, takes out the biggest pine in the area and it's now resting on my garage. Go figure.

"64" could be an interesting year......................
