Probably the fish from my avatar caught last fall.

I caught one in California Dec.23rd that was like a bigger more burgundy version of the above, but no camera... I need a good small waterproof camera.
Many beautiful brookies in Boulder Creek higher up in the mountains, but no decent photos to share.

I really love the coloration of the brookie fin....white, black, reddish fading to orange...very unique i believe.

    Good topic!

All of your photos demonstrate the range of color and markings that make trout a fine thing to capture. This makes for a tough choice, I've caught all sort of beauties but seldom photographed them. Last year I got 2 into digital format that were very good to look at. One trout and one grayling stood out for unusual coloration and markings. They were not large fish but they made for a great trip.

This was taken from a different fish but gives you an idea of how these light up if you expose them to direct sunlight.

I havent caught many trout as of yet so here is a sample of some bluegill variants in texas.

    first the native strain:

next the strain that was introduced:

and next what I call the ghost strain:

upon further reflection the picture above me is of a female blue gill.
Ill throw in another Texas treat a green sunfish:

I guess I'm surprised that we have no bass/panfish/saltwater shots here. The original post didn't say only salmonids allowed? Some of those saltwater fish are so colorful?? Roosters or Dorado or???

    -m

oh, sure...while I'm typing drlaser comes through with the panfish.
