    Default craigslist and scams

I put my dad's wheelchair van up for sale on craigslist yesterday and got 3 almost immediate responses
One guy wanted to sell me a new van
Another was a fairly transparent bait and switch using paypal
And the third wanted me to open a seemingly suspect website so that I could find the "buyer" an insurance quote.....

I've had good experiences with craigslist before but this is a little disappointing

It reminds me of the old NYPD Blue TV show where the desk Sargent told his shift team every episode "to be careful out there".

That's terrible! The amount of cons going on today is out of control. Craigslist seems to be on the top of the offenders list but there ate so many more. A local guy put his old F150 up and got a response from what he thought was another local . Met the guy at his house and him and a friend were tied up at gun point and the truck taken. When the cops caught the three men they were identified as living two states away and had pulled this car jack scam before. Who do you trust? Smith and Wesson!

A close friend of mine has purchased and sold numerous items using Craigslist.
I, however, have tried to sell a Behringer half-stack 6-8 times and all I get are the scam email responses.
Once I had a fairly promising response and we exchanged emails several times but he kept asking for my address so that "his driver could come and pick it up." Needless to say, I've still got it.

Interesting, a couple years ago my son was telling me the same thing, be very careful when selling vehicles on Craigslist, make sure you meet in a neutral site, don't come alone and be prepared for the worst.

This is becoming hard to believe. How stupid do they think people are ?
The third "buyer", the one that wanted me to log in and get her an insurance quote has sent me the same exact email three time today.... all with different names and from different email addresses

It is helpful when criminals are stupid, makes them easier to spot. I've had some good experiences on craigslist. But when I was living in Ann Arbor I tried selling some tires. Had a guy want me to meet him in a convenience store parking lot in Detroit (not in a good area of Detroit). Yeah, didn't fall for that one.

I sold one of my kayaks on craigslist. A vintage canvas over wood expedition 18 footer.
The guy offered me less than the asking price and I excepted as it seemed like he really wanted it and I thought he would restore it and care for it as it should be.
When it time came, it turns out he was quite pleased with the deal as it was and surprised me with the full asking price instead of the amount that we had agreed to.
He still emails me pictures and how he loves the boat !

I have sold many many items on craigslist, Mostly snowmobile related. I always put "no spammers scammers or any other BS!" I also do something like "put polaris edge in subject when e-mailing to avoid scammers and spammers" it does help some i guess. I hate the phone calls saying that "we can help you sell your vehicle, for a small fee. THAT irritates me and usually give them a long list of 4-letter words telling them exactly where they can shove their offer, (Actually i enjoy that part, the boys laugh like crazy)

I hate cragslist, I never do anything with that spam site. Even putting a found dog add on there had spam coming in from every possible quack.
