    Default First tenkara trip

I finally got a chance to fish a local pond I caught some gills & a few bass the best one was a 11in.bass.I learned several lessons 1 don't rush the cast when I did the line would pile up,2 when I didn't think about it the line layed out perfect 3 just how little effort it took to give the fly life I was throwing small poppers the top bite was on,4 The big bass was the best lesson the rod handled the jumps & the run with no problem I was able to bring him to hand in no time. I can see how this type of fishing could be habit forming. It was a short but great day

Sounds like a great first trip! What rod did you use?

At least for me, that's one of the big appeals fishing a fix-length line system - the effortless casting. I find sometimes when I'm really concentrating, the casting becomes automatic. I look at a spot on the water and my fly just shows up. Sort of hard to explain, but I like it when it happens.

I know what you mean its just automatic the one problem I had was what to do with my left hand I didn't need it to strip.I also found out I could cast with my left hand a lot easier no changing hands. This could be come a habit but I wont give up my rod & reel

Fixed length-line systems are a specialized tool. They are extremely good at doing what they were designed to do. However there certainly are situations where it's best to use another tool.
