Salt water tenkara/keiryu

Anyone do this? As I mentioned on a different thread, I am going to Marathon Key in March. I am toying with the idea of bringing my keiryu rod with me, maybe catch little mangrove snappers or whatever. But what if a tarpon or shark takes the fly?

I think if you take a pole designed to tame carp or salmon. You could prevail!

I have a Daiwa Keiryu-X 39; think that is adequate?

I think if you have fought carp with it. It should be adequate. Typically carp and salmon poles are super long(5.4m to 9m), which definitely helps in the fight and turning the fish.

Wow! Where is that video from? When I was in South Africa we saw guys who fish in the ocean with hand lines, catching fish they call snoek.

If you use the appropriate rod and line, smaller fish are very doable. I just posted a story using my Tenkara rod at the beach. I plan on using this technique more often. I plan on using my Keiryu rod (17') also for this purpose. good luck.

I would not use it in Florida. The fish are too big there and too spooky to get close enough to use Tenkara. However, i know some people use them for fun in CXI and the Indian Ocean for babies.
