Indian River off Ft Pierce inlet. Nothing biting...but not a bad thing, since a shark cruised right by the kayak.

Too windy to fish much, but I got the chance to test some fly lines in wind. Verdict: Don't fish when it's that windy.

3+ pounds of fun off the dock. Black and purple Bugger. Slowed down the retrieve. Water pretty chilly. Right at dark.

Cold day crappie. I've never fished with ice on my guides, until today

Seems this is the only time of year that I'm able to successfully target crappie on Lake Tarpon in Florida. The timing is good, because the saltwater fishing is generally poor right after the big cold snaps. Found them last week and caught 20 in one outing (all 12-13 inches long) and nailed 25 more the following day with two of them 14 inches long. Lots of fun on a 5 wt fly rod. Also mixed in some gills and largemouth bass.

Now that looks like 8 lbs. of fun. The only thing I dislike about catching catfish on the fly, is waiting for the line to unwind itself after I release the fish. If I have a streamer on the line, it looks like one of those propellers on a kid's airplane with the rubber band motor.

Some nice looking fish in the last few posts. Catfish are a fun, unexpected pleasure on a fly rod.
