Tested a white balanced Leech on a 45 degree day. Got three bass pretty quick off the little dock including this one. Fish got to eat even when the air and water are cold.

Made a quick stop to visit my cousin while in Florida for the weekend. Caught 1 small bass and a few bluegill. Was good to see him again, hope to get him up to NC.

Went at lunch today. Fish are in 2-4 feet of water. Black marabou, olive ice dub balanced Leech fished free on a strip and pause. Caught 5 lickety split and had to go.

Nice crappies! I'm heading out with the 3 in a little while. Got a couple the other day, missed a few. Thought it was a bit early for around here. What's your water temp?

I need some for the deep fryer.

I don’t know for sure, based on an educated guess somewhere around 60 degrees or a degree or two more. We’ve had a warm stretch of weather.

A little bass and a little Redear Sunfish. Not great, but okay for my first outing of 2018.

I decided to keep a couple Crappie to see how they taste and took out some redfish from the freezer to cook with them. Fried them up in separate batches. The redfish from the freezer easily won the taste test.

This lake I live on is not known for great tasting fish. Years ago, I had some catfish from the same lake. The flavor was what I imagine muddy grass clippings would taste like. There’s plenty of fun fish to catch here in the lake, but I’m going all in on the catch and release.
