sorry for lack of reports!
Hey guys haven't posted for awhile. Sorry for my lack of reports recently. I can't catch a break! The rivers up here have had rain after rain and never get the chance to clear up so I can fish. I have fished maybe 4 or 5 times in the last month or 2 and had terrible days!! I might hit some ponds in the mean time or hit Lake Erie with my buddy and troll for some walleyes . Maybe I will try and bring my fly rod out and make a couple casts see if I can get something to bite! worst year for me ever so far! should be posting some pix of beautiful smallies and rock bass right about now!

Re: sorry for lack of reports!

I have never been to one of the Lake Erie tribs in summer. I used to fish them in March for steelhead but never came in the months of May or June. What happens to all those steelhead? Do they spawn and then go back to the lake? Do any hang around near the mouths / estuaries where the creeks meet the lake waters?

Re: sorry for lack of reports!
hey hardy! ya once it starts to heat up beginning of may or so they are spawned out and they go out back to the deep parts of the lake where you can catch them trolling on spoons and such when fishing for walleyes but I hear if you hook one they will most likely die cause the waters are warm and the fight kills them?? not sure if its true tho cause alot of people argue here on how to handle steelies and when to stop fishing for them and such.

Re: sorry for lack of reports!
The creeks where you fish for them in the spring, have you ever taken temperature readings on those waters over summer? You can probably see where I'm headed with all this..........

Re: sorry for lack of reports!
the creeks and rivers I fish are way to hot for steelies in the summer. they even start to die in the rivers in may. you start to see dead or dying ones more then and then if they get a good flood they are gone. then its time for smallies in the rivers. and other summer fish like catfish and rock bass and such. people are out into lake erie in 40 feet of water catching walleyes now. no steelies around. they go deep where its cold

Re: sorry for lack of reports!
I understand,

I was just wondering about the spawn. If the eggs hatch I would expect high mortality among the fry but maybe not 100%. Just wondering from afar,

Re: sorry for lack of reports!
I have never caught any small fry but have caught 12 inch ones during the spawn tho... I hear they do not spawn naturally because the stream is so hot. Ours are stocked steelhead from a fishery in sandusky. they do however go back out to the lake so i suppose maybe a fry would make it out in the lake and survive/ It could happen I suppose cause anything is possible but not good enough to sustain the population.
