Has to be a DDH Leech. This fly is just dynamite for smallmouth. Brown is the best color.

    I've caught smallies on a #14 black caddis to a #4 crayfish &
pretty much everything in-between. I am in the process of tying
up some new sculpin tube flies to try this year. I'll let you know
how they did. If I had a absolute favorite my choice more than
likely would be either a black leech, or black stonefly.

Clousers would be great in dark colors---we would get out 5 wt fly rods after walleye fishing around Pelee island in lake Erie and catch smallmouth on a 1/16 oz black jig---it was a blast---I hope to reproduce those results this summer on the Ohio side of the lake rather than burning fuel chasing walleye.

Meat Whistle for me, but the clouser is a very close second.

I've got the most on Clousers, but I think every time I've found myself saying "now that's a nice smallmouth" the fly has been a baitfish pattern with a zonker strip integrated.

I can't seem to find a picture of what I'm thinking of, but its tied and rides upside-down like a clouser, with the zonker on the barb side of the hook shank, weighted eyes underneath, and dubbing or estaz wrapped for the body.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

    Cliff,

Fish just love eating rabbit, tastes just like chicken.

There are so many. I always find the best fly is the one that just got bit! But I'll add zuddlers and mushmouths to the list.
