Record mullet
So over the summer I tried my hardest to catch my first carp...three hook actual landing of the fish.

About three weeks ago I went empty handed again with the carp but managed to land an 18 inch mullet. I wasnt surprised at all as I have been catching nice sized mullet all summer; I didnt even take a picture.

It had stuck with me ever since and finally last night while sharing this story at the fly shop...we looked it up. Turns out the record mullet in Texas is 13 inches. Had I taken a be the state record holder.

Pretty cool. Ill be back and this time will take pics

Re: Record mullet
Carp and mullet? Is this brackish water or is it a freshwater mullet?

Re: Record mullet
I have to be honest....I didnt know there was freshwater mullet. I thought they were only in salt. Was really surprised to see em in our bayous. Its the bayous that run through Houston so not sure about the brackish parts.

Heres a pic

Re: Record mullet
What did you catch him on. I have developed a mullet obsession (and no, there are no naughty thoughts involving billy ray:eek:). But those things are just fun on a fly rod. They will get pretty far up into the freshwater in our tidal rivers down here in Florida, so I'm not surprised you got one in Houston.
