Thread: Carp Plan of Attack

  1. Default Re: Carp Plan of Attack

What size rod and line are you using?

  2. Default Re: Carp Plan of Attack

The Carp I have caught are 26" to 36" so I use a 6wt or 8wt. I was using a 6 wt most the summer but one hook set it exploded the top two sections. I am pretty much worried free with my 8.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this.... But I've had trouble getting the marabou miss flies in using for carp to stay floating much more than a cast or two even with floatant!

Has anyone added some foam to their carp flies to keep it riding high for a super long drift?

The Tadpole. I tie mine on a #10 hook and it either floats on top or sub surface. I tie them in White, Olive, Midnight fire.l

Mark, are you fishing the canals in Bountiful, or the Jordan?
Life is not like a bowl of cherries. It's more like a jar of ghost peppers. What you eat today might burn your ass tomorrow...

Mark, I have been fishing the Jordan River (as well as Stillwater like Utah Lake and DC) for the past 5 years with Carp as my target.
I fished a small canal right next to Smith's that sounds like what you got. A lot of moss and muck. It is part of the Jordan River.

This canal is very shallow and about 10' wide.
I also fish the river coming into it

I use four flies most times. They are Rainy's Hex, Popcorn ball, then a Dog Biscuit that was introduced to me here, and lastly the Tadpole in White, Olive and Midnight fire. I fish a dry dropper with either the Dog Biscuit or the tadpole as a dry and ALWAYS the popcorn ball as a dropper.
With water really mucky, I use a small Thingamabobber, with the dry on a 10" tag right below the indy, and the popcorn ball 20" to 24" below the indy. REALLY fun hooking two at once with the smallest being 24"....

Hey Joni what type of carp is that in the picture? I'm guessing a Common but I'm new to this game and trying to identify the carp they have here in korea

It is a common, but would be hard to tell a difference between a Mirror and a Common head on I would think.
    Mirror

    Common

Grass Carp are cool but haven't come across any locally.
